Wines by the glass

Tucked into a brick-paved back alley in the town centre, the bistro has an old beamed interior and a British menu that makes excursions to the Mediterranean and East Asia. First up might be Serrano ham with salami, figs and pine nuts in sherry dressing, or perhaps a well-risen twice-baked cheese soufflé with poached pear and caramelised walnuts. Follow with a seafood main of Duart salmon and tiger prawns in soy and ginger broth, with crispy noodles, brown rice and bok choy, or there might be Gatcombe lamb rack and braised belly with bubble-and-squeak and baby turnips. Dark chocolate cheesecake with malted-milk Malteser ice cream makes a great finish.
