Opened in the 1960s by the charismatic ‘Mr Ali’, Shish Mahal is a Glaswegian institution but it has moved with the times. There’s a smart modern feel to this restaurant with its leather seating and linen-clad tables. The menu takes in old favourites from the madras, vindaloo and bhuna stable, but there are plenty of intriguing new ideas. Kick off with tender Hara lamb chops marinaded in ginger, garlic and green herbs and follow it with king prawn makhani full of seafood in a buttery, nutty sauce that demands to be mopped up with a Lahori nan bread stuffed with green chilies and coriander.
