The Stockbridge is a charming restaurant where the walls are hung with vivid modern artwork and mirrors, and spotlights in the low ceiling create pools of light on crisply clothed tables. The cooking goes from strength to strength, producing consistently well-conceived dishes from fine Scottish produce. Seared cod with a scallop and crab boudin in langoustine bisque is one starter. A lot goes into main courses, but an assured touch means flavours are clean and well-defined, as with venison loin in port, with poached pear, celeriac purée, kale and chocolate oil. A pre-dessert arrives before the real thing, perhaps banana Tatin with butterscotch sauce.
