Compact and informal with simple Indian objets d’art, unclothed tables and good quality crockery, Navadhanya has become a popular spot for locals in Edinburgh’s Haymarket area since it opened in 2014. The modern Indian food steers clear of the usual high street curry dishes and offers an inventive menu of regional dishes. Sunhari Jhingha (chargrilled king prawns, mustard, cumin and coriander chutney) is a strong way to start, perhaps followed by Hyderabadi lamb shank slow cooked for six hours with caramelised onions, cardamom and fennel. To finish, try the gulab jamun (saffron and cardamom-infused doughnuts soaked in sugar syrup).
