A West End fixture for more than 20 years, the first floor l’escargot blanc is accessed via the restaurant s own standalone wine bar. The intimate upstairs restaurant is classic bistro through and through, from the stripped wooden floors and distressed furniture to the Gallic objets d’art and predominantly French staff. Conscientiously sourced Scottish produce underpins the well-executed bistro staples: a starter of smoked haddock and herb risotto might precede duck confit au gratin dauphinois. End with an indulgent dessert like chocolate tart, salted caramel and crème anglaise. An exclusively French wine list organised by grape variety offers excellent value.
