Ashdown Park is a magnificent Victorian pile in acres of grounds, where The Anderida Restaurant's cooking is both classical and contemporary. Scallops are roasted and served atop cauliflower risotto with ceps purée and vichyssoise crumb to make an enjoyable starter. Main courses may seem a tad complex, but flavours work well together: beef fillet, for instance, served pink, comes with mozzarella quiche, broad beans, pork texture, artichoke purée and truffled mushrooms. Whole Dover sole meunière with new potatoes and buttered greens will appeal to those who prefer plainer food, while desserts follow the multi-flavoured route of tonka bean pannacotta with orange sponge, honey and saffron cream, pistachios, banana confit and lime meringue.
