The BQA to its friends, this family-run hotel has undergone an extensive refurbishment and emerged looking good and fit for purpose in the 21st century. There's a satisfying Scottish-ness to the place, which extends to the culinary output. The region's produce figures large on menus that show Pan-European leanings and no lack of ambition. Pancetta-wrapped scallops with cauliflower purée and roasted spring onion might set the ball rolling, ahead of main-course halibut with leeks, kale and seafood sauce. To finish, a wee dram of whisky adds backbone to sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream, or you could go savoury with local cheeses, oatcakes and chutney.
