Updated country inn with smart cooking

In a bucolic location between Dartmoor and Exmoor, the Rams Head is a 17th-century country inn reinvented for modern times, its relaxed ambience working well with the updated interior decor, stripped pine floors, stone walls and head-skimming beams. A switched-on gastro pub menu appeals to 21st-century sensibilities with the likes of pigs cheeks braised in Chianti with squash purée and pickled walnut preceding halibut with lemongrass and chilli gnocchi with langoustine and sesame, or meltingly tender fillet of Exmoor National Park beef. Puddings have the same full-flavoured appeal – chocolate éclair, perhaps, served with cherry gel, soft caramel and white chocolate shard.
