A 16th-century manor house in the beautiful South Hams, Langdon Court has played host to royal personages and their consorts since the days of Henry VIII and Catherine Parr. A country-house hotel since 1960, local farms and Devon fishermen supply the kitchen, where the cooking continues on an impressive upward trajectory. So, start off with seared scallops with broad beans and Iberico ham, and follow on with partridge, apricot farce and herb veg and pancetta, or an old time favourite – beef cheek, red cabbage and horseradish mash. The delicious pairing of chocolate and salted caramel create a fondant served with white chocolate sorbet.
