A substantial white property, Ilsington's diverse menu includes some divertingly appealing dishes. Take a starter of seared mackerel fillets, accompanied by chilli and tomato couscous, a chorizo and pea pancake, leeks and Avruga oil, or duck breast, which is plated with hogs pudding, beetroot, roasted courgettes and blackberry gastrique. Accompaniments complement the main ingredients without swamping them, seen in main courses of roast chicken with a maple and mustard gel, pommes Anna, pea purée, mushrooms, confit tomato and smoked beetroot, and pavé of hake with sauce nero, chorizo and chickpea cassoulet and Bombay-style potatoes. Finish with cinnamon pannacotta with strawberry and elderflower jelly, a rice pudding fritter and honeycomb. There is now a taster menu on Friday and Saturday evenings.
