The Orangery Restaurant in this secluded spot in the Peak District National Park offers stunning views from a light-filled, comfortable room with a contemporary look. The kitchen has a modern, creative style, adding novel and intriguing elements to many dishes. Rolled lamb leg, for instance, is accompanied by leek ash, camomile gel and turnips, and fillet of mackerel by carrot ketchup, carrot purée and sultanas - and those are just starters. Confident techniques and good judgement result in a main course of local venison loin with pommes Anna, beetroot, leeks and cocoa nib crumb. Inventive desserts include orange cheesecake with a raspberry bubble, orange jelly and raspberry sorbet.
