A Victorian house between the Theatre by the Lake and Keswick Market boasting a contemporary restaurant where, in a light-filled space, a menu of modern brasserie cooking is offered. Fishcakes of Cajun-style blackened salmon and chorizo, dressed with mint and dill yogurt, is a palate-priming starter, as is haggis spring rolls with hoisin dip. Mains offer plenty of Lakeland meats - sizable sirloins with chunky chips and sauce Diane, fell-bred lamb with bubble-and-squeak - as well as forthright fish preparations such as monkfish in prosciutto with tomato, clam and garlic linguine. Finish with a raspberry ripple-themed Eton Mess, or a warm chocolate brownie served with white chocolate and marshmallow sauce.
