A white Georgian property on the banks of the River Nent, eating here is a treat, with a wide-ranging menu that can set diners dithering. Starters might include saffron-infused crab arancini with tomato compôte and basil pesto. Main courses too are quite complex, bringing out layers of flavours and textures: duo of spring lamb, for instance, features a roast loin and a braised shoulder on crushed new potatoes with wild garlic and a mint and sun-blushed tomato sauce. Or there's the roast cod fillet in pancetta sauce, anchovy with lemon and thyme risotto. A skilled pastry cook is behind puddings such as tarte Tatin with ginger custard.
