Fine dining with expansive lough views

AA Inspector

Carrig is a lovingly restored Victorian country manor in acres of colourful woodland gardens with views across Caragh Lake to the Kerry Mountains. Inside, the genteel house is done out in period style, with turf fires sizzling in cosy, chintzy lounges, while the dining room is the very image of 19th-century chic, with William Morris wallpapers, swagged curtains, polished floorboards, and formally laid tables. The cooking takes a more up-to-date approach. Crab could get a fashionable three-way treatment as ravioli, soup and pasty, and might be followed by Skeaghanore duck breast with vanilla and lime potato purée, and sweet port and brandy jus. Finish with prune and Armagnac crème brûlée.
