The recently refurbished Tabb's occupies a white corner building that looks for all the world like a private dwelling. The kitchen's a busy place, producing everything in-house. Pigeon breast is partnered by a soft-boiled egg, black pasta and sun-dried tomato dressing, and another starter might be rich smoked haddock chowder flavoured with lemongrass, ginger and chilli oil. Beautifully tender roast pork belly is accompanied by couscous gently spiked by harissa along with black olives, green lentils, battered courgettes and sauté potatoes, and grilled hake fillet by Provençal-style leeks and mushrooms and Jerusalem artichoke velouté. Puddings run to tonka bean pannacotta with strawberry sorbet given a kick of black pepper.
