On Cornwall’s stunning Lizard peninsula, the New Yard Restaurant is at the heart of the historic Trelowarren Estate. Occupying the former stable yard, the interior has a distinctive look, sporting a chequered floor, arched windows and bare wooden tables. From the open-plan kitchen, the punchy, seasonal cooking ranges from starters like fillet steak tartare, croûton and slow-cooked egg, to mains of pan-roasted hake, cabbage, bacon, crushed potatoes, mussel and cider butter sauce. Meat eaters might choose barbecued rump of lamb, ragù pastilla, apple, turnip, wild garlic, goats’ curd and anchovy. Finish with lemon meringue sorbet, lemon curd, saffron custard, biscuit and honeycomb.
