Contemporary brasserie in a 17th-century stately home

Jacobean Crewe Hall is reminiscent of a grand stately home with magnificent interiors, but there's nothing stuffy about it, and that especially goes for the Brasserie, housed in a modern wing of the building, with its open-plan layout and buzzy atmosphere. There's Bloody Mary mayo in a first-course prawn and crab cocktail, and curried leeks and mussels accompanying seared hake fillet among main courses. There's simplicity in a dish of pearl barley and heirloom tomato risotto, a pasta option of three cheese macaroni, and steaks cooked on the charcoal-fired grill. Finish with a warm ginger parkin with burnt orange marmalade, honeycomb ice cream and butterscotch sauce.
