Big-hearted cooking in Tom Kerridge’s second pub

The Coach is a cosy, pubby sort of venue dominated by the L-shaped bar, with elbow-to-elbow tables, and an open kitchen where chefs are part of the buzzy dynamic, pitching in to help chatty staff whisk dishes out to the tables. Head chef Tom De Keyser turns out tapas-sized plates with the same DNA as the garlanded Hand & Flowers, Tom Kerridge’s mothership up the road – deeply satisfying, big on flavour and glowing with technical finesse. Divided between ‘meat’ and 'no meat' dishes, the menu reads like a roster of big-hearted modern pub fodder – crispy pig’s head with celeriac remoulade and spiced date sauce, perhaps, or a terrine of duck leg, heart and gizzard with prune and Armagnac ketchup. From the ‘no meat’ side might come potted crab with cucumber chutney and smoked paprika butter. For pudding, tonka bean pannacotta could arrive with mango, honeycomb and ginger wine jelly. The Coach doesn't take bookings, and with the Kerridge name sure to draw in the crowds, make sure to turn up nice and early with fingers firmly crossed.
