A one-time coaching inn dating from the 16th century, the Angel retains plenty of period charm, though it's more restaurant with rooms than country pub these days. There's a cosy bar for a pre-dinner drink, dining areas filled with original features, and a smart conservatory. The cooking is modern European, with Asian influences sometimes to the fore. Daily specials appear on a blackboard and fish is a favoured offering. Begin with Thai-spiced tiger prawn risotto with parmesan and chilli crackling, before moving on to roast lamb chump on cassoulet in redcurrant and rosemary jus. Desserts bring on banana parfait with caramelised banana and chocolate sauce.
