Set within The Crown Inn, a Tudor-style building in the pretty town of Amersham, Hawkyns is run by the celebrated Indian chef Atul Kochhar. Set against a backdrop of original wooden beams, stripped floorboards and brick fireplaces, the scrubbed farmhouse-style tables and mismatched chairs add an informal pub feel but the food combines the best of British and Indian cooking. Kick off with game terrine, pickled radish, ras el hanout spring onion and curry mayo, perhaps moving on to sea bass, squid ink and aubergine purée, charred cauliflower, moilee sauce and fennel. End with cardamom chocolate fondant, passion fruit gel and rose parfait.
