This contemporary townhouse hotel directly opposite the castle offers ringside views of the changing of the guard. The Scottish Steakhouse restaurant is a large room with polished dark wooden tables, where you can expect top-quality cuts cooked exactly as ordered on the Josper grill, with a choice of sauces. Elsewhere, the menu is surprisingly wide-ranging: starters take in squid tempura with Vietnamese dipping sauce, and main courses including sea bass fillet with crisp shaved fennel and chilli, lime and soy sauce as well as corned beef hash with a fried duck egg. To finish, go for brownies with marshmallow and honeycomb served with toffee ice cream.
