Floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the plaza form one side of the split-level Caprice dining room in the Holiday Inn at junction 10 of the M4. It's an expansive, light-filled space with a relaxed feel, where the cooking comes straight out of the modern British drawer, with clear, well-balanced flavours in abundance. Begin with accurately seared scallops teamed with a chicken crisp, leek and dill, before moving on to cod in squid ink with Jerusalem artichoke and lemon, or superb venison, accompanied by red cabbage, celeriac, hazelnuts and tarragon. Chocolate treats are sprinkled through the dessert listings, perhaps a dark-hued délice with raspberry sorbet.
