Overlooking the River Lagan in the heart of Belfast, OX is a collaboration between local boy Stephen Toman and Frenchman Alain Kerloc'h. The cooking's light, modern touch keeps things simple and fresh, as seen in a delicate starter of scallops, white bean bisque and lemongrass. A spring meal might feature a well-judged rump of Mourne lamb teamed with chicory, black olive and spinach, before ending with a wonderfully fresh jasmine crème brûlée with plum sorbet. For those diners eager to sample more dishes, the tasting menus - including one for vegetarians - are a popular choice for the table. A conscientiously chosen wine list adds gloss to this quality operation.
