The Plough is a whitewashed 15th-century country inn with a full quota of beams and timbers, stone walls, tiny windows and welcoming fires in its cosy bars. The restaurant is a striking contrast: the airy extension features lofty oak-beamed ceilings while full-length windows flood the room with light. Top-quality produce is transformed into big-flavoured modern dishes on daily-changing menus that may open with a terrine of ham, chicken and foie gras with rhubarb and ginger chutney, followed by grilled Dover sole with herb butter. Steaks from the Josper grill are a speciality, and for pudding there might be pear frangipane tart with cinnamon ice cream.
