As befits its location at the mouth of Aberdeen harbour, The Silver Darling focuses on seafood, and you can watch the trawlers come and go from the conservatory-style restaurant atop a stocky granite building. The kitchen produces menus of French-accented contemporary ideas with the odd foray into Far Eastern flavours. Smoked ham hock and foie gras terrine with fig chutney and pickled vegetables gets things off to a flying start, and might be followed by monkfish poached in red wine served on pancetta and cabbage fricassee with celeriac mousseline and a black pudding croquette. Desserts are impressive too: try mango and passionfruit cheesecake with chocolate sorbet.
