Close to an old ford through the River Severn, this timber framed inn tucked away in Bewdley's web of lanes has been catering for passing trade for over 480 years. It was a base for jaggers and their packhorses; the inside retains much character from those long-gone days, with cosy log fires and wizened beams. Today's time travellers can indulge in fine beers from the town's brewery and a range of ciders. Fulfilling fodder includes a wealth of pies – Desperate Dan Cow Pie with best Herefordshire beef for example – and savoury suet puddings: venison, port, cranberry and Shropshire Blue prove to be a real feast. Light bites cater for the less ravenous.
