A National Trust-owned building on the famous Stourhead Estate, The Red Lion dates from the 16th century and has been a pub for around 350 years. The low-beamed, stone-flagged front bar is cosy and inviting, and children are welcome in the larger back bar. They’re passionate about beer and food here, and you’ll find straightforward honest pub grub on a regularly changing menu. Lunches include sandwiches and jacket potatoes, plus kedgeree, or sausages. At dinner you might find black pudding and tomato salad to start, with braised faggots or scampi and chips for a main. There’s always fish dishes and a pie as well.
