In addition to the grown-ups, children and dogs are very welcome at this Cotswold dining pub where the new owners offer good ales and ciders and tempting menus. Two acres of grounds allow plenty of space for lawns, fruit trees and vegetable plots which supply fresh produce for the kitchen. Light pastel shades and beams scrubbed down to their natural hue characterise the appealing interior, where typical dishes include smoked pork belly, damson jelly and kohlrabi salad; home-smoked Cornish mackerel on toast with red pepper dressing; wild boar and smoked Applewood burger, apricot mayonnaise and triple-cooked chips; and halibut, slow-cooked ham hock, wild mushrooms, potatoes and kale.
