Near the cathedral, the appropriately named Cloisters is a mid 18th-century pub; its Victorian windows look into a beamed interior warmed by a pair of open fires. The choice of ales includes Hop Back Summer Lightning, Sharp's Doom Bar and Butcombe Bitter. Thanks to a well-qualified chef, the menu will please everyone with its popular pub plates, from traditional fish and chips to pork and leek sausages or beef and ale pie, as well as evening dishes like lamb steak with redcurrant sauce, or salmon fillet with mozzarella and pesto. Doorstep sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes are also available. Booking is advised for the Sunday carvery.
