Village pub with a horseracing theme

At a glance

Bar menu
Wheelchair access

A mile north of the bustling market town of Marlborough you'll find this pub, tucked away in rolling downland. The free house’s name reflects the racing heritage of the Berkshire Downs (whose western boundary is on the border with Wiltshire). Framed silks of leading racehorse owners and jockeys adorn the walls and the pub offers local Ramsbury ales, fine wines and an informal dining experience. Sample evening dishes run along the lines of creamed ham hock and tarragon, sourdough and poached egg; Cornish hake, spinach, sautéed new potatoes, brown shrimp beurre noisette; or tempura vegetables, soy, chilli and lemongrass dressing.
