Close to Malmesbury Abbey, which was founded as a Benedictine monastery in the 7th century, the inn offers two very different bars, separated by a covered walkway: one is the residents' bar, within the Elmer Restaurant, while the other is the more contemporary Bar 29. The latter serves home-cooked meals such as sausages and mash; pie of the day; fish and chips; omelettes; and the house speciality, double egg, Wiltshire ham and chips. There's live entertainment in the bar at weekends. The real ales – 3B, Moonlight and Wiltshire Gold – are from Arkell's, which owns the pub.
