Originally a farmhouse that sold ale, this rural inn dating from 1709 occupies a commanding position overlooking the Calder Valley. Ales from Marston's, Jennings and a guest brewery are in the bar, where reminders of the pub's former life can be seen, in winter by the flickering light of the huge log fire. Fine locally-sourced dishes prepared by a five-strong kitchen team include monkfish pakora with a cucumber and red onion salad, followed by roasted venison steak, shallot and carrot potato cake.
