The Crown Inn is a free house owned and run by Penny and James Middleton-Burn. Nicely positioned opposite the village green, the pub has an excellent reputation for home-made and seasonal food, together with well-kept ales: a house brew by Long Man is supported by others from the likes of Hammerpot and Kissingate. Chef James and his team make nearly everything from scratch, from soups, pâtés and home-ground steak burgers to puddings, ice creams and sorbets. Hard to resist is the hand-crafted steak, kidney and local ale pie; or look to the daily specials board for Susses leg of lamb stew.
