Famous locally for its skittle alley, this 18th-century pub, now with new owners and a new chef, is a favourite with walkers, cyclists and horse-riders. Its secluded, stream-bordered garden is a real sun-trap and inside is a log-fire-warmed bar. Booking is strongly advised for the popular Sunday carvery. Nearby Kingley Vale Nature Reserve contains a grove of some of Britain's oldest trees.
