This traditional 18th-century country inn is the place to go to if you like faggots. The original recipe went missing but was then rediscovered; the tasty savouries are served with creamy mashed potato, mushed peas and onion gravy. Eat them in the pastel-toned dining room with attractive plasterwork on the ceiling, or in the rug-strewn, flagstone-floored and heavily beamed bar. The seasonally changing main menu of pub favourites is augmented by a daily changing specials board; ingredients for the freshly prepared dishes are sourced from best quality local suppliers. The single menu served throughout proffers a starter such as haddock and spring onion fishcake with dressed leaves and tartare sauce. Comforting mains include beef or chicken burgers served on a toasted bap with tomato and red pepper relish, double-dipped hand-cut chips and rocket salad. Sharing tapas platters brim with either fish or meats. Oven-baked camembert with red onion jam, olives and toasted farmhouse bread is a popular vegetarian option.
