Older visitors might remember (or perhaps try to forget) a TV soap called Crossroads, many of whose outdoor scenes were shot in Tanworth, doubling as 'Kings Oak'. The pub overlooks the small village green and war memorial, and has stood here since the 17th century, so the cool grey tones of the thoroughly modern bar area might come as a surprise. Starters include liver, brandy and mushroom pâté and goats’ cheese with parsley mousse on ciabatta; mains might be grilled sea bass on marinated peppers; tagliatelle with broccoli and pine nuts; or pub classics like Cumberland sausage and mash.
