This low-beamed inn has slumbered beside the wooded common for five centuries, maturing into a popular, cosy village local enhanced by an intimate restaurant area, where seasonal specials tumble from the menu. Start off with seafood crêpe mornay; mushrooms in garlic butter; or paw paw with fresh crab; then move on to mains like escalope of veal Marsala; mushroom Stroganoff; grilled calves' liver with bacon and onions; or poached halibut with prawns and brandy sauce. After you've finished you could take a stroll in the lovely surrounding countryside, or relax in the garden with a pint of TEA (Traditional English Ale) from the local Hogs Back Brewery.
