When in Guildford, definitely one to head for

At a glance

Bar menu
Open all year

Overlooking the River Wey, this is one humdinger of a pub. The decor, the furnishings, the accessorising – all have been conceived and applied by people who understand good interior design. There are plenty of places to eat and drink, not least on the waterside decking (first grab some bread from the bowl on bar to feed the ducks). There's even a 'dog corner', with beds, treats and towels. Typical menu items are pan-seared bavette steak with horseradish crème fraîche; 8oz piri-piri pork steak, chorizo and tomato crushed potatoes, basil dressing; and Young’s beer-battered cod, rustic chips and garden peas.
