Timeless tavern with high-quality food

Open all year

This early 17th-century tile-hung tavern is tucked away in the rural southern reaches of the Mole Valley, its charm enhanced by the absence of games machines, TV screens and piped music. The older bar is centred on an inglenook fireplace at one end and a log-burning stove at the other. The food served is of high quality and is prepared by a team of chefs using local produce whenever possible. Typical dishes include pork and herb terrine, which might be followed by steak and ale pie or supreme of chicken. At the front is a garden for those with a drink, at the side a patio and garden for diners, and there’s ample parking space.
