AA Pick of the Pubs

Beer festival

A little tricky to find – it's down a long cul-de-sac – but you'll be pleased you persevered. It's a real community pub, with terracotta floors, oak beams, a warming fire and cricketing memorabilia, while in the garden you'll find a patio with picnic tables, a vine-topped pergola and a children’s fort. Six frequently-changing real ales come from regional microbreweries, and the ciders are Thatchers and the local Hazy Hog. Lizzy, daughter of owners Kevin and Sally Macready, masterminds a menu comprising both modern and traditional dishes. After a starter of smoked duck carpaccio, maybe, main courses might include chicken and ham pie; roasted belly pork with smoky maple baked beans and winter pecan slaw; or a rib-eye steak. A huge choice of ales and ciders is laid on during the beer, cider and music festival during the second weekend in June.
