A 16th-century coaching inn steeped in character and history, this friendly family-run free house clearly has a passion for beer. Besides the impressive range of Belgian bottled beers, you'll always find up to eight constantly-changing cask real ales on the counter. The pub offers a high standard of food all freshly cooked, with daily specials board, featuring dishes such as half a pint of tiger prawns (or a pint for a main course); 12-hour braised lamb shank, almond, apricot and mint couscous and sprouting broccoli; and chocolate and honey tart, pistachio praline and crème fraîche.
