This cream-washed old inn, the only survivor from the four here a century ago, stands on a corner opposite the village green. Lowish beams in the bar might catch any particularly tall arrival distracted by thoughts of a pint of one of the East Anglian ales, such as Brewers Gold, or a cider from the Suffolk village of Aspall. Fricassée of wild mushrooms, poached egg, horseradish mayo and micro herbs might be the ideal way to start a meal, followed perhaps by a gourmet duck burger; pan-fried salted cod with quinoa risotto; pork three ways; or ratatouille tartlet with goats' cheese. Banoffee pie or warm sticky toffee pudding to finish.
