Easily identified by an old plough and a weeping willow at the front, this part-thatched, 16th-century pub is tucked away on the pretty village green in Rede. On long-standing landlord Brian Desborough’s ever-changing blackboard menu look for lamb braised in Rioja red wine with vegetables and chorizo; crab au gratin; and diced chicken breast with creamy Stilton and celery sauce. The bar serves Fuller’s, Adnams, Ringwood and Sharp’s ales and 10 wines by the glass. At 128 metres above sea level, Rede is Suffolk’s highest point – verified by Guinness World Records.
