Stefan Caron has been running this late 18th-century inn for more than 40 years. In unspoilt countryside on an estate once owned by Lady Jane Grey, it retains the style of an old country pub, with church pews in the bar, where Black Country brewers Bathams and Wye Valley put on a double act. Menus variously offer chicken balti; fresh tagliatelle; Tex Mex, a rib-eye steak with chilli and mozzarella; pie of the day with peas and chunky chips; and beer-battered cod with mushy peas. The large garden with weeping willow, gazebo and attractive patio area are the external attractions.
