Lovely valley pub popular with walkers

Sit in the lavender-scented garden with an Otter beer, or cosy up to the snug's log fire with a glass of Honey's cider in this attractive village inn set on the slopes of the Avon Valley just outside Bath. Handy for ramblers straying from the Kennet & Avon Canal towpath walk, the accomplished menu of home-prepared, locally sourced dishes means it's also a popular dining inn. Start with ham fritters and gruyère fondue; or consider a sharing plate of whole oven-baked camembert. Mains may be shellfish linguine; smoked chicken stew; or a minute steak, mustard mayo and red onion compôte sandwich, whilst desserts such as chocolate cake and orange mascarpone make a memorable finale. The extensive wine list is equally satisfying.
