Dunster Castle dominates this historic village, the Gateway to Exmoor National Park. The inn itself is 16th century, as a fresco in a bedroom depicting Henry VIII as the devil confirms. The bar stocks real ciders and ales, including Exmoor Ale brewed in Wiveliscombe. Sandwiches and a ploughman’s are served at lunchtime, while the main menu presents slow-cooked lamb shank; a selection of pies; and pot roast chicken with fresh garden herbs. This small inn has limited seating, so reservations for dinner and Sunday lunch are recommended.
