Only four miles from the historic Tarr Steps, the Royal Oak Inn has been the hub of the pretty Exmoor village of Withypool for over 300 years. During that time, the pub has welcomed some notable guests including RD Blackmore, who stayed here whilst writing Lorna Doone. In the two bars with their real fires and wheelback chairs, join the locals over a pint of Exmoor Gold, or head to the restaurant for seasonal dishes such as roasted stuffed crown of pheasant with juniper jus; or steak and Exmoor Ale pie.
