Just an ammonite’s throw from Kilve’s fossil-rich beach, the Quantock Hills rise up behind this family-run 17th-century coaching inn. Real ales to enjoy in the beamed bar or in the garden include Exmoor Gold and Otter Head, plus local ciders, any of which will happily accompany a ciabatta roll or something from the main menu, such as roast chump of lamb with dauphinoise potatoes, wilted greens and port jus or seafood linguine in tomato and white wine sauce.
