On the edge of a charming village just two miles from the cathedral city of Wells, the age of this 300-year-old pub is confirmed by the low-beamed ceilings, flagstone floors and log fires. Another notable feature is its copper-topped bar with five real ales and Thatchers Gold on handpull. Here, you can have a snack or a daily special, while in the restaurant typical dishes include starters such as garlic mushrooms; pan-fried tiger prawns or warm mushroom and walnut salad; and main dishes like apricot chicken breast or poached salmon fillet. There are also specials board choices. The large enclosed garden enjoys views of the Mendip Hills.
