The Blue Ball Inn

Inventive dishes with top quality, traceable ingredients

At a glance

AA Pick of the Pubs
Bar menu

Although the 18th-century Blue Ball is still down the same narrow lane in the Quantock Hills, some years ago it moved into a pretty thatched barn across the road. The inn looks south to the Brendon Hills and serves regional ales such as Exmoor Stag, along with Thatchers and Mad Apple ciders. The food focus is on reliably sourced, fully traceable produce, and cooking to order is the order of the day. Share a board of nibbles at lunchtime, or choose your filling for a fresh sandwich made with home-baked bread. Look to the restaurant carte for a proper three-course treat: Fowey River mussels with white wine, garlic and thyme; slow-cooked shank of lamb with Moroccan spices, couscous, apricots and pistachios; and a sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch and Somerset clotted cream.
